New strategy to treat multiple sclerosis

Scientists are exploring new treatments for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) that target the immune system more precisely. Current therapies reduce attacks on nerve cells but also weaken the body's defenses.

A new approach uses a patient's own immune cells, called tolerogenic dendritic cells (tolDCs), to restore balance without compromising the immune system.

A recent study found that MS patients' immune cells still had a "pro-inflammatory" signature, reducing the treatment's effectiveness. However, combining these cells with the drug Dimethyl Fumarate showed promise, suggesting potential for improved MS therapies.
